Trying Google Reader
Just finished fooling around with the new Google Reader for a while. In my opinion it’s not bad overall — though not very different from other GUI feed readers, it obviously has some Google scent, namely organization using tags and gmail-like interface, while avoiding advanced configuration like frequency of feed fetching.
Somehow I like its list view more then expanded view, though expanded view also has some particular feature I’m fond of (namely marking item as read when one scroll items off the browser window).
However, it seems a bit slow. Probably because of heavy usage of javascript, or because the browser spend lots of resources prefetching items? Besides, adding tag is not as easy as I would think. People need to add tag on existing feed, and can’t pre-define a tag which contain no feed.
Anyway, in summary, it is a viable feed reader for me. Simple enough, almost hazzle-free to use. I’m just a bit uncomfortable with its slowness.
