Some of the photos were secretly deleted from my digital camera by a certain guy few weeks ago. Surely, with valid reason, he didn’t like some of my photos. Though I have backup of some of them, other newer photos are not backed up, thus only data recovery can come to my rescue. As a Ubuntu partition is available, I decided to gives the tools mentioned in Ubuntu Data Discovery wiki page some testing, all of which are readily installable with apt-get.

My test points to the following conclusion:

scalpel is utterly useless when discovering digital photos, while other 4 tools (foremost, photorec, magicrescue, recoverjpeg) achieve similar degree of recovery, with photorec edging out the other 3.

Though there was an existing test between scalpel and foremost, it only compares their speed, but gives no comment on whether software works or not. Data discovery software must try to discover as much evidence as possible, speed is just marketing gimmick when tools don’t work at all.

This is a test post from Flock, a social web browser I’m just starting to try out. I must say, Flock gives me the real feeling of web 2.0, I haven’t been so impressed since the day I was able to create blog post from within Flickr.

Talking about the paintings within Mormon LDS Conference Center, this is one of the most shocking I’ve even seen. This resembles mosaic so much, yet the guide said it is just a normal painting. I still can’t believe it: with the lack of lighting around this painting (it resides in a very dark corner), if it doesn’t emit cold light itself, I see no explanation why it can be viewed so clearly. And even more suspicious: the guide doesn’t allow us to touch it. IF the guide were true, then this painting should have been painted with fluorescent material.

• 天氣很不穩定，一時會接近 20 度，有時又會跌到接近 0 度。當地人都說這很不尋常，一般三月就接近停雪了。

• 第二天本來想外出看看的，就是因為突如其來的大風雪，途中被迫進了最近的一家店吃東西兼避難。很大份 pizza，兩個人吃不完，雖然不是很好吃，還是可以接受的。

• 本來在網上找不到票，準備不看 NBA 的了(其實是找到的，但它沒保證需要多少時間送到手上，那時已經沒多少時間剩了)，但後來找到有黃牛票，差價不算離譜，於是可以全場看足三小時。那兒很奇怪，據聞是私人地方，警察不能進去捉人，才令黃牛票這麼猖獗。我不是看波之人，但去到現場後也大概了解美國人對籃球有多狂熱。坐我旁邊那個人的口哨吵死人了。
