OpenOffice 之：死屍還魂
2008-06-26上星期才說封印 OpenOffice，今天就已經忍不住要再開一次。為甚麼？死不心息。在寫上一篇 blog 時，其實想到一個方法，將 background 圖片硬塞進 template 裏面，但並未實證過；經我那些低級 luser-wannabe skillz 實戰一次：

Evolution 很安全
2008-06-22這已經不是新鮮事了，很久以前就有人提過：原來 Evolution 用 base64 來儲存密碼。

不用找 decoder 了，Y2NuOTExNQ== 用 base64 碼還原後是 ccn9115，是我其中一個電郵戶口開戶時的密碼。我有三年沒碰過 evolution 了，所以密碼還保留着。那它靠甚麼來保護？原來是檔案權限。
既然檔案權限就「足夠了」，又為甚麼要無聊到畫蛇添足，用 base64？沒人知道了。也許想和 outlook 兼容吧？
Showing WordPress private posts in calendar and archive
2008-06-21Most WordPress users might have written something they don’t want to share at all, that is called private post. However that feature poses some usability problem. Sometimes I would find it inconvenient when searching for my own private posts — they are only available inside admin page, or you have to browse tens or hundreds of pages, one by one, to search for them.
Out of my own need, I coded a plugin to solve the situation; now I can see my own private posts inside calendar and monthly archive list. Probably it can be useful for others, so the plugin is available here.
永遠放棄 OpenOffice
2008-06-20我很天真，我很傻。
上星期開始，企圖真正用 OpenOffice 作為工作用途。結果花了整整一星期的時間（還沒有計算乘車和在家裏的時間），連弄個 presentation 的 template 都弄不到。
- 想將標題填色，no way。紋風不動。除非每張 slide 逐個逐個標題填色。
- 想將標題下的文字框的邊框加顏色，no way。和標題情況一樣。
- OK，就盡量容忍一下，標題顏色等就姑且用背景圖來代替。用 Gimp 畫了個半吊子的圖出來，想將 template 的背景設定為那幅圖，no way。每次重新開 template，那幅圖都不見了。
就這樣白白浪費了一個星期的 productivity。玩夠了。
原來 ubuntu server 是這麼一回事
2008-06-16之前一直看到自己的 server log 投訴 slocate 找不到 /etc/updatedb.conf，原來大半個月都沒有做 file index。奇怪了一段時間，明明那個檔案本來還在，為甚麼會忽然在升級至新版本時清除了 (→ Hardy)。
Some untold memory about IMO
2008-06-12Last night I suddenly remembered something others told me, way back when the days I participated in International Mathematics Olympiad. At that time the leader told us Hong Kong participants about some dark truth happened in the past. One of them being that North Korean team has been discredited before. I completely forgot when it happened, but definitely more than 15 years ago.
